As Honda continues testing the next-gen 2016 Honda Freed, it has been spied again, this time in Tokyo, Japan, courtesy WEBCARTOP. The 2016 Honda Freed is expected to reach dealerships in Japan in August, followed by a Indonesian launch in early-2016.

The second generation Honda Freed apparently adopts a tenth generation Honda Civic-inspired front-end. The interior though should be derived from the Honda Fit (Honda Jazz).

The new generation model, the spyshots suggest, will have an evolutionary redesign. Thus, the dimensions too should remain close to the current generation model. The current JDM-spec Freed measures 4,215 mm in length, 1,695 in width and 1,715 mm (1,745 mm with 4WD) in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,740 mm. The new generation Freed will reportedly measure 4,250 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width and 1,710 mm in height.

One of the major highlights of the 2016 Honda Freed was previously said to be the new 1.0-litre VTEC TURBO three-cylinder petrol engine. However, according to a recent report, the standard new generation model will be available only with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The current hybrid variant’s IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) will be replaced by a new i-DCD dual-clutch hybrid system in the second generation. The 2016 Honda Freed Hybrid variant will make use of a 1.5-litre engine with an electric motor and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
