Toyota has launched the 2016 Toyota Yaris in the UK at a starting price of £11,495. Deliveries to customers will begin from late December.

The Yaris comes in four trims – Active, Icon, Design and Excel; listed in ascending order. The two premium trims are available only in 5-door format with the others available in both 3- and 5-door body types.

The Yaris line-up has been refreshed with the addition of a new Design grade, which will be replacing the Sport trim. The Design trim on the outside gets projector headlights, LED DRLs, gloss-black honeycomb mesh grille, chrome fog lamps surrounds, 16-inch black machined alloys, rear spoiler and LED tail lights.

The Design model can also be had with a new bi-colour pack (£795) to provide further visual differentiaion. This pack adds an Eclipse Black metallic finish for the roof, door mirrors, front pillars, and upper grille contrasting with either a Vermillion Red or Glacier Pearl White body paint job.

The base model (Active) comes with standard features such as Toyota Touch 2 infotainment system, DAB tuner, Bluetooth and reversing camera. The Icon grade adds rear privacy glass, cruise control, black Spinne cloth seat trim and new 15-inch alloy wheels. The top-end hybrid Excel trim has been endowed with auto-dimming rear-view mirrors, automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, cooled glovebox, 16-inch alloys and rear power windows. Toyota Safety Sense that brings along active safety systems such as Lane Departure Alert, Pre-Collision System and Automatic High Beam can be specified on all trims except the base Active grade.

The 2016 Yaris is offered with two optional factory packs, which are called Convenience and Premium pack. The Convenience pack available at an extra cost of £950 consists of keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, dusk-sensing headlights and rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding door mirrors and push-button start. The Premium pack, exclusive to the Excel hybrid, is priced at £1,095 and features keyless entry, auto-folding door mirrors, Skyview panoramic roof, rear spoiler and Toyota Touch 2 with Go navigation.

Engines remain unchanged, that means an option of four engines – two petrol, one diesel and one hybrid. The petrol engines are 1.0- and 1.5-litre VVT-i units coupled to either a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission as well as a Multidrive S unit. The diesel is a 1.4-litre D4D mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox while the 1.5-litre VVT-i Hybrid is married to a CVT.
