Days after the next-gen 2017 Honda Civic hatchback was previewed by the Honda Civic Prototype at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show its production design has been allegedly leaked in patent drawings, courtesy Autoforum.

As expected, Honda kept the exterior largely unchanged from the Swiss concept. The only notable differences are less aggressive bumpers and the missing centre-mouted twin tailpipes.

The next-gen Honda Civic Hatchback will be 130 mm longer, 200 mm wider and 20 mm lower than the current generation. The 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback is said to be launched in the USA first, in H2 2016. The European launch, Honda has confirmed, will happen in early 2017.

In Europe, the next-gen Civic Hatchback will be offered with a new 1.0-litre VTEC TURBO turbocharged three-cylinder petrol unit as the base engine. The 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine from the sedan version as well as the 1.6-litre i-DTEC turbocharged four-cylinder diesel from the current hatchback are also likely. Only the 1.5L VTEC TURBO unit will be offered stateside. A 6-speed manual and a CVT are the expected choices with these engines.

Noteworthy features of the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback should include LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, tail lights with integrated LED bars, tailgate-mounted spoiler, electronic parking brake, electronic parking brake, heated front seats, heated outboard rear seats and Display Audio infotainment system with a 7-inch HD display and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration compatibility.
