5 Things We Know About The Datsun Redi-Go
Datsun is all set to unveil the production-spec Datsun redi-Go on April 14 in New Delhi. Here are five things we know about the Maruti Alto challenger.

1. CMF platform

The Datsun redi-GO will be the second product in the Nissan-Renault Alliance to ride on the CMF-A platform, first being the Renault Kwid. The platform has been highly localized at the Renault-Nissan alliance factory in Oragadam, Chennai, and relies on frugal engineering to keep costs low.

2. Design inspired by the concept

Datsun unveiled the redi-GO concept at the Auto Expo 2014, which previewed the design of the A-segment pseudo-crossover. As seen in recent spyshots of test mules, the Datsun redi-GO will look largely identical to the concept, save for normal production-spec elements. One version of the redi-Go was seen with spoiler, roof rails and a rugged-looking bumper.

3. Powertrain borrowed from the Kwid

Reports suggest that the Datsun redi-Go will source the 0.8-liter SCe engine from the Renault Kwid, which produces 54 PS and 74 Nm. It will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox that is reportedly retuned for shorter ratios in first and second gears for better pickup.

4. Diesel engine, AMT a possibility in the future

Another report speculated that Nissan is working on a new 1.0-liter three cylinder diesel engine that will be introduced in CMF-A cars. The Datsun redi-GO could be the first product to pack the engine, which is expected to draw attention from rivals such as the Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon that aren’t available with a diesel option. With the Kwid due to receive the AMT in the second half of the year, it would only be a matter of time before the redi-Go acquires it.

5. April 14 world reveal

Datsun has confirmed that its mini car will make its world debut on April 14. It will reportedly be priced below the Renault Kwid, and has been confirmed for its production launch “in the coming months”.
