Alfa Romeo Working on New Line of Engines for Upcoming Models, Starting with 159 Replacement
The turbocharged 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine in the Alfa Romeo 4C, which produces 237 horsepower, is a good engine, this cannot be denied.

But it's really the only sparkling gem in Alfa's current engine lineup, and with several new models coming out in the next couple of years, Alfa Romeo has evidently decided to make some big changes. New engines, both gasoline and diesel, will be rolled out along with these cars, starting with the 159 replacement.

There will be two gasoline engines, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 2.9-liter V6. There is some speculation the V6 will be based on Maserati's, but a Ferrari build is also a possibility. In its highest state of tune, this engine will produce 480 horsepower and go in a GTA-badged sedan. The diesels will follow much the same pattern, one four-cylinder and one V6, with the V6 again coming from Maserati and also being used by Jeep. Seven or eight new cars are expected from Alfa by the end of 2018, including a replacement for the 4C. This might mean more engines as well, but we'll have to wait and see.
