Land Rover has had the closest thing to a palace-like SUV, but it is too incognito for braggadocios buyers, so Bentley has jumped the gun with the Bentayga to appease these customers. Not wanting to be outdone by the British, Mercedes has already claimed that they have a Maybach version of an SUV coming to McMansions near you.
o make the S-Class Maybach, Mercedes used the already-great S-Class and built off of that, but to make an SUV Maybach, Mercedes first wants to introduce an S-Class worthy version of its GL SUV called the GLS. Mercedes was going to debut this car at the 2015 LA Auto Show, but the Internet has beaten Mercedes by leaking photos and a brochure of the GLS. The brochure gives details about various versions of the GLS including a bargain model that will have a V6 diesel pushing 254 horsepower and a hybrid GLS containing an electric motor and a gas-powered twin-turbo V6 making 328 horsepower. The top of the line GLS will be an AMG version that will get a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of 577 horsepower.
Last year’s LA Auto Show saw the unveiling of the S-Class Maybach, so it is only fitting to showcase the future of Maybach at this year’s show.
