If hot rods defy the establishment, then rat rods are a way to rebel even more. Hot rods are things of chrome and beauty; rat rods glorify rust and grittiness. Their engines are purposely exposed because the car itself is supposed to appear unfinished. Instead of allowing an old Ford Model A or other similar roadster go to the junk yard (or for a proper full-on restoration), some opt for the rat rod route. Forget the paint and fancy interiors. Rat rods are about defiance, attitude, and offbeat style.
