Straddling sub-4 metre and compact crossovers, the Audi Q2 measures 4.19 metres in length. It’s 1.51 metres tall and 1.79 metres wide, and has a wheelbase of 2.60 metres.
Up front, the Audi Q2 is characterised by the Singleframe grille, wedge-shaped headlights with T-shaped LED daytime running lights and generously sized air inlets. When seen from the sides, the roofline and the low glasshouse give a coupe-like sporty look to the crossover. The rear-end features truly distinctive squarish tail lamps, a long roof spoiler and a diffuser with an underbody protection look.
Inside, the Audi Q2, even though being an entry-level Q series model, features the Audi virtual cockpit fully-digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch display as well as a head-up display. The dashboard layout is similar to the other latest Audi models. The MMI infotainment system comes with a digital display placed on the instrument panel as standard, and it can be operated using a rotary/push-button control and two buttons on the centre tunnel. A touchpad will also be available, if MMI navigation plus with MMI touch is specified.
Against almost all speculations and expectations, Audi has announced that it will offer engines as small as with 1.0-litre displacement in the Q2. The range starts with a 1.0-litre TFSI three-cylinder petrol engine and moves up to include 1.4- and 2.0-litre TFSI four-cylinder petrol engines and three four-cylinder TDI diesel engines with 1.6- and 2.0-litre displacements.
The three TFSI petrol and three TDI diesel engines will have outputs ranging from 85 kW (116 hp) to 140 kW (190 hp). Front-wheel drive drivetrain configuration will be standard, but quattro permanent all-wheel drive system will be available moving up the range.
A 6-speed manual transmission will be standard, while a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission will be available as an optional feature. In the range-topping TDI and 2.0 TFSI models, a newly developed dual-clutch transmission will be offered, which has a new type of oil supply and reduced friction.
The Audi Q2 will become available to order in Europe in mid-2016 and reach dealerships in Autumn 2016.
