Confirming this development, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, Bajaj Auto’s managing director, said that the company was working on a “new kind of cruiser” and that it would be different from the Avenger platform.
While the Auto Expo will witness Bajaj introducing a prototype of this motorcycle, the production version should go on sale by 2015.
Currently, Bajaj’s cruiser lineup consists of only the Avenger 220, which is powered by a 219.89cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, DTS-i engine producing 19.03 PS and 17.5 Nm of torque.
Bajaj have not rolled out any updates on the Avenger for quite sometime, and it seems that the company is focusing only on the Pulsar range and the commuter range. To give you an example of what we mean, the Pulsar has a five member strong lineup, while the Discover series consists of six models (with reports hinting that another couple of variants could be added).
Bajaj Auto is also working on two new Pulsars – a 375cc model and a 200cc variant speculated to be called the SuperSports – which are expected to be shown by the end of this financial year. While the SuperSport would use a modified version of the 200NS’ engine, the 375 could get its firepower from the KTM Duke 390′s 373cc engine.
