With all the commotion around Rolls-Royce's Cullinan Series II and Cullinan Black Badge Series II, it was only normal that some folks had 'forgotten' about the existence of the Bentley Bentayga rival. We're a little ironic, we admit, since the ultra-luxury super-SUV has never been the most unforgettable experience in the ritzy stratosphere of six-digit high-riding machines. But that's not because Bentley hasn't tried, for sure.
In fact, we're eagerly waiting for the new hybrid powertrain to drop inside the SUV after Bentley worked it inside the Continental GT, GTC, and Flying Spur, complete with a total system output of no less than 771 horsepower. In the meantime, we are getting stuff like the Bentayga EWB Azure Riviera Collection and more Bentley perfumes, of course.
Well, there's also a new color – which was recently announced by the British ultra-luxury automaker as a collaboration between Bentley, its bespoke Mulliner division, and Supriya Lele. The latter is an aspiring fashion guru – an Indian-British designer who became known for winning the 2020 LVMH Prize and through her eponymous fashion brand founded in 2016.
Bentley and Supriya Lele have created a new, unique color - Nīla Blue- inspired by her Indian heritage. The name is derived from the Sanskrit word for "sapphire," and to better emphasize its focus – "a seamless blend of personal history and artisanal craft" – Bentley and the fashion designer co-created a one-of-one specification with Mulliner based on a Bentley Bentayga S ultra-luxury super-SUV.
The latest expression of their collaboration, the new Nīla Blue color, will also be available through Mulliner exclusively to customers who select the bespoke division's products. The new shade was conceived as a distinctive hue that reflects the fashion designer's personality and also her frequent use of the color blue in her fashion collections.
To display the new color, Mulliner and Lele worked on a bespoke Bentayga S with color-coordinated body elements, 22-inch sporty wheels featuring a Nīla Blue pinstripe, plus bright Mulliner White accents for the carbon fiber body kit that provides a compelling contrast. Inside, the unique features include satin black Naim audio speaker grilles, open pore black stained crown cut walnut veneers, as well as Nila Blue touches of color.
"The Bentley Mulliner Bespoke Studio continues to push the boundaries of what is possible. This collaboration invites customers to explore a world where the only limits are those of the imagination. Nīla Blue is an expression of subtlety and depth, a tone that reflects both Supriya's artistic vision and Mulliner's expertise in crafting the finest bespoke finishes. It is a hue that speaks to the discerning tastes of those who appreciate quiet luxury," explained David Parker, Chief Commercial Officer at Mulliner.
