BMW i8 Vs. M1: Modern and Classic BMW Supercars Separated by 30 Years of Evolution
The only mid-engined cars to wear the BMW badge. This is a very special comparison video. British publication Auto Express wanted to see how thirty years of car-building evolution has changed the BMW supercar, so managed to get hold of a mint condition BMW M1, which debuted back in 1978, and introduced it to the BMW i8.

These are the only mid-engined cars to wear the BMW badge and, in their own unique way, both are spectacular to look at from every angle. The M1 comes powered by a 3.5-liter six-cylinder unit delivering 277 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque, whereas the i8 boasts a hybrid setup with a 1.5-liter three-pot paired with an electric motor for a combined output of 357 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. It takes its time but when BMW builds a supercar, the world takes note.
