Customs Destroys Illegally Imported Land Rover Defender
Not cool, customs. Not cool.
Just a heads up before we get into it, this story will likely make you very mad. The US has incredibly strict laws about which cars can and cannot be imported from overseas, with safety and emissions regulations even being enforced in the case of personal vehicles less than 25 years old. What makes this even worse is the horribly heavy handed manner in which these laws are enforced. Illegally imported cars are often destroyed, in a shameful display of wastefulness.
Such a fate befell this Land Rover Defender, impounded in Baltimore. Surely there must be some middle ground between the market being flooded with cheap Chinese deathtraps and the wanton destruction of rare collector vehicles.
