East Rand to host classic bikes
The Classic Motorcycle Club’s annual 1000 Bike Show continues to increase in popularity in line with a growth in interest among South Africans in classic and vintage cars and motorcycles.

This will be the 19th staging of this popular show. It took place for the first time at the Carlton Centre in the Johannesburg CBD in 1983.

For 2011, the organisers are expecting more than 400 classic motorcycles to be on display at the usual venue, Germiston High School through Saturday and Sunday (July 2/3).

BIGGER MARQUEE

Everybody who buys an entrance ticket can enter the draw for a Puzey Salsa 150 scooter or Puzey Max valued at R9 000.

The organisers have had to hire a bigger marquee than ever before to cater for the increased number of exhibits. This has been a trend in recent years as more and more people and their motorcycles become involved in this major event on the local motorcycling calendar.

In addition to the classic, vintage and veteran machines there will be displays of old and modern motorcycles from Harley-Davidson, Triumph, Yamaha and Royal Enfield.

CLUB RIDES

Classic Motorcycle Club chairman Pierre Cronje said: "The 1000 Bike Show always offers a secondary display in the form of the huge variety and number of motorcycles and trikes ridden by the visitors and parked on the school's soccer field. We are also pleased that we have been able to keep the cost of refreshments aat 2010 prices."

The Ducati and Honda Goldwing clubs will be riding to the show on Sunday morning (July 3) to add to the attractionand steam locomotive and stationary steam-engine enthusiasts will also display their hobbies to provide variety for visitors and an extra attraction for youngsters.
