GM Wants Its Own Hardcore Off-Road Truck; Trademarks "Z71 Trail Boss"
Question is which truck will it be applied towards? At first the Ford F-150 Raptor had the hardcore off-road market all to itself.

With the exception of aftermarket modification options, those wanting a Baja sand destroyer direct from the factory had just one address: Ford. That’ll soon change as Ram and now GM want in on the action. According to a new report, GM has just trademarked "Z71 Trail Boss," a name that’ll be applied to a new off-road focused truck. Specifically, the trademark application referred to "light-duty trucks" and not SUVs or crossovers.

What wasn’t made clear is whether the name will be used for GM’s half-ton or its new mid-size trucks. Ram’s new 1500 Rebel, like the F-150 Raptor, is a full-size truck, but GM may have already given us a clue as to what it has in mind here. Last November at LA the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Concept was revealed, and word had it then that a production version was forthcoming. And because the full-size off-road truck market will soon have two contenders, that leaves the mid-size arena open, save for the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. No word yet from GM regarding a reveal date, but this is something that could arrive fairly soon.
