Hyundai publicized a sleeker, more powerful Genesis for 2012 at the Chicago auto show February, the 9.

The new 5.0-liter direct-injection V8 engine is exclusive to the 5.0 R-Spec model of the Genesis. Hyundai says the V8, known inside Hyundai as the Tau, is its most powerful engine yet -- pushing 429 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. It comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Genesis sedan's base 3.8-liter V6 also benefits from new technology for the 2012 model year. It will gain direct fuel injection and use the eight-speed transmission.

The R-Spec model gets a refreshed front fascia. The new design includes a more aggressive-looking grille with larger intake openings. Dark chrome headlamp inserts and finished 19-inch wheels also mark the exterior. Headlights have LED accents and daytime running lights. Folding side mirrors include integrated puddle lamps.

The exterior modifications extend to the rear fascia as well, with new taillights and dual asymmetrical exhaust tips/

Accessible options for the R-Spec V8 include a sport-tuned suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 summer performance tires.

The Genesis R-Spec is offered in three sport-themed exterior colours: Black Noir, Titanium Gray and Platinum Metallic, each with black leather interior and a black leather-covered steering wheel.

The new 5.0-liter V8 and eight-speed transmission will replace the current 4.6-liter V8 as the standard powertrain in the 2012 Hyundai Equus luxury sedan this summer.
