Hyundai's past ICOTY wins include Grand i10 (2014), Elite i20 (2015), and Creta (2016).
Representing Hyundai Verna, the winner of ICOTY'18, Mr. YK Koo, Managing Director & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said –
ICOTY has always been a pioneer of the Indian auto awards and winning it is a special achievement. Our team has put in a lot of efforts in creating the best vehicle for our customers. It feels great that the jury have recognised our efforts and we would also like to thank our valuable customers who have loved our car over others. It is always a great feeling to have so many competitors, all of whom have brought out beautiful cars this year.
Hyundai launched the new fifth-generation Verna in August this year. Over the first two months on sale, the sedan managed to outpace major rivals Honda City and Maruti Ciaz. As of December 2, the Hyundai Verna had racked up 24,000 bookings in India. By December, Hyundai had exported 2,022 units of the sedan to Saudi Arabia. The new Verna will also be exported to South Africa, other Gulf and Asian countries 2018 onwards.
