India-Bound Renault Kaptur
Renault has taken the wraps off the Renault Kaptur at an event in Moscow today. The Duster-based crossover is confirmed to go on sale in summer 2016 in Russia, before it is introduced in more emerging markets such as Brazil and India.

The Renault Kaptur measures 4,333 mm long, 1,813 mm wide, 1,613 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,674 mm. Compared to the Clio-based Renault Captur, Renault has tuned the Kaptur to smoothly traverse over rough terrain, hence the approach and departure angles of 20 and 31 degrees respectively, as well as a ground clearance of 204 mm.

The interior appears to be identical to the Renault Captur, while Renault claims that the Kaptur offers the tallest driving position in the segment (708 mm). It has a 387 liter boot volume that can be increased to 1,200 liters by folding down the 60/40-split bench.

The Kaptur comes equipped with keyless entry with start/stop ignition, a MEDIA NAV system with a seven-inch touch screen display, radio and Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a digital speedometer. Specific to the Russian model are heated front seats, heated windscreen and a remote engine start system.

Renault haven’t revealed the engine lineup of the Duster-based Renault Kaptur, but have confirmed that it will be available with an AWD system incorporating a locking centre differential, which is not available in the Captur. Like in the Duster AWD, it will have 2WD, LOCK and AUTO modes to choose from. The press shots show the Kaptur with a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission.

As for the Indian market, sources have revealed that car will launch in India in October 2017. The Renault Kaptur can be priced competitively, since the Duster’s platform is highly localized in the market. The Kaptur will take on the Mahindra XUV500, VW Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and the Tata Hexa.
