India expects MotoGP for 2012

New Delhi, India - The promoters of India's initial 2011 Formula 1 GP are discussing the addition of a round of the World motorcycling championship to the track's calendar.

For the first race of F1 in Indis the 5.14km track being built at Greater Noida, 35km from Delhi. This race circuit will take the 18th race of the 2011 Formula 1 championship on October 30, now subject is in final approval, and the race promoters are studying other options to make the track financially workable.

A Jaypee Sports International spokesman said: "We're negotiating with Dorna Sports (MotoGP rightholders) to bring MotoGP to India but it's quite an early stage. There is no deal yet."

"We've been talking to Dorna as we have been talking to others to explore various other opportunities. Yes, MotoGP might come to India but definitely not before 2012," the he added.

Indian automaker Mahindra Group is enthusiastic about the possibility and will launch a team in the 125cc category, the Times of India reported on Tuesday.

"This is part of our global branding strategy," Mahindra Group vice-chairman Anand Mahindra was quoted by the newspaper as saying. "MotoGP gives us access to a global platform wherein we can showcase our design, technology, engineering and IT capabilities."

"The construction of the Noida track gives us hope that MotoGP will come to India."
