We know that Transformers is not Terminator, and the fact that Tomy Co. Ltd. (the original creators of the Transformers) has teamed up with a couple of robotics firms to make a full-sized robot that can turn into a car doesn't necessarily mean the robot apocalypse is just around the corner. Still though, you might want to consider it a possibility, especially since the first phase, a quarter-scale fully operational prototype, has already been built.
It's quite a sophisticated piece of robotics, especially for something being built just because they can.
