Kahn's New Defender 90 Concept 001 Boasts Extra Wide Fenders and a Hand-Finished Interior
Chelsea Truck Co has called upon Kahn Design to bring forward a brand-new concept vehicle based on the legendary Defender 90. Dubbed the Defender 90 Concept 001, this as-of-yet one of a kind vehicle fuses British heritage with avant-garde styling, and the result is interesting to say the least.

What you’re looking at here is more of a prototype vehicle (despite being called a concept) - a design showcase, if you will.

The point was to preview certain bespoke upgrades meant to adorn future limited-run models. Should you be interested in such an upgrade, the tuner will convert your L663 Defender 90 or 110 model to look just like this in exchange for £25,000 ($32,000). This sum includes everything from taxes to professional fitting and the bespoke paint finish.

As far as the exterior design is concerned, the Concept 001 has been fitted with a set of 20” Hammerhead RS-Forged wheels, working in tandem with 33-profile all-terrain tires, resulting in an imposing stance. It looks almost “military-like”. Then you’ve got the extra-wide fenders and carbon fiber rear diffuser, both courtesy of Chelsea Truck Company. As for the main exterior colorway, it’s called Kahn Volcanic Rock Satin, and we’ve seen it before.

At the front, we’re dealing with a set of facelifted headlights, while the Kahn-branded spare wheel cover adds more personality to the rear end. Other exterior mods include the lightweight, aerodynamically optimized vented hood (in gloss black), and the 3D-textured lower body protective paint.

What about the interior?
It’s everything we’ve come to expect from the Chelsea Truck Company and Kahn Design. You can tell straight away that the Concept 001’s cabin is different than that of a factory-standard Defender 90.

The black leather upholstery works together with Britannia blue piping and several other blue upholstery accents, resulting in a striking dual-tone design. Other interior highlights include the exclusive Kahn Design Concept Identity badge and the color-matched side vents with CTC Plaques.

Who’s this for?
Probably not for your urban-dwelling, middle class next-door neighbor. It takes a certain type of wealthy individual to pull off driving such a vehicle. If you live in the countryside and you frequently go hunting or horse riding, or whatever it is posh people do in Britain, then you might want to consider driving something like this over a factory-standard Land Rover.

Personally, I really like what Kahn have done with the latest Range Rover. It’s definitely the way to go if you’re after something a little more special.

Meanwhile, a solid alternative to the Defender 90 and the 110 would be the INEOS Grenadier, yet another awesome off-roader that’s been heavily customized by Chelsea Truck Co & Kahn Design. They called this project the Series II Expedition and it looks like it means serious business.
