Kia GT Coupe Gets The Green Light
It took a while, and it'll take a bit longer still, but the GT is finally on the way. Kia managed to cause quite a stir when they debuted the GT concept at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.

But when we didn’t hear anything about production plans, after a while we lost hope that it would ever see the inside of a dealership. Well, it appears that we can once again dare to dream, as Kia has confirmed that a production version of the car will be coming in 2016 or early 2017; although there no other real details to speak of yet.

But before we see the production version of the GT, we have word that Kia will be bringing a new roadster concept to the Detroit Auto Show in January. This is intended to be a rival to the Mazda MX-5, aimed at helping to prop up Kia’s fledgling sport credentials. This roadster isn’t, so far as we know, related to the GT coupe in any significant way, so if you don’t care for it, don’t immediately write off the GT as well. We’re probably going to have to wait a while before we can even pass preliminary judgment on the car. But if it does end up looking like the concept, that would be fantastic.
