Lamborghini Urus Concept Gets Patented in China
The Lamborghini Urus SUV concept which was showcased at the Beijing Motor show last year made us realize the Italian super car manufacturer’s ability to come up with a high performance SUV.

Even though everyone at Lamborghini including the boss Mr. Stephan Winkelmann wants the Urus to enter series production, the decision to give the SUV a green light is in the hands of VW, Lamborghini’s parent company. Mr. Winkelmann believes that volumes for the Urus would justify the huge investment that is necessary to build the car.

Lamborghini officials previously stated that even if the Urus makes it to the production line, it won’t do so until at least 2017. However, in the meanwhile, Chinese media has gotten its hands on the patent leaks of the Urus which suggests that Lamborghini is mulling a possible production run much earlier than 2017.

China is expected to be the most important market for the Urus and that was precisely the reason why the SUV made its global premiere at the Beijing Motor Show. That also explains why the patents were leaked from China.

The Urus would gets its power from a V10 power plant and is expected to be underpinned by the platform which will be shared by the next gen Audi Q7, the Porsche Cayenne and the production version of the Bentley EXP-9F. The target weight for the Urus is about 2 tonnes and hence the performance SUV could use multiple materials like carbon fiber reinforced plastic, aluminium and magnesium.
