"There's a giant lizard on the track."
Formula 1 ace Max Verstappen sent a rather odd radio message during the third qualifying session of the Singapore Grand Prix.

"There's a giant lizard on the track." And, just in case his crew thought it was some sort of ruse, he added, "I am not joking."

The reptile in question was a Monitor Lizard. It's not exactly Godzilla, as one of his crewmates quipped, but it was definitely large. We're not experts in this particular field, so we can't say exactly what species of Monitor it may have been. In any case, some Monitors can grow to weigh as much as 200 pounds. That'd do some damage to an F1car, for sure.

Qualifying is over for Singapore, and we're happy to report that no lizards were harmed during the action. Nico Rosberg will start on pole, followed by Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen will start in fourth.
