McLaren 12C Destroys 458 on the Strip
The Ferrari 458 Italia gets a serious drag racing lesson from the British supercar. Watching a McLaren 12C run the quarter-mile in 10.55 seconds recently made for impressive viewing, but without a competitor the supercar’s record-breaking run lacked perspective.

This has now been provided against the Ferrari 458 Italia, the car that is often cited as the 12C’s main rival. The run that put the 12C into second place behind the Veyron as the world’s quickest production car took place at the Palm Beach International Raceway, which is where the supercars matched up for a classic drag race.

The 12C’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 puts out 616 hp while the 458’s 4.5-liter V8 pushes out 562 hp, with both cars using a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox as well as launch control. It seems the extra power, low-end torque and slightly less weight makes a lot of difference for the 12C as it leaves the Ferrari in its wake.
