Mercedes M-Class to Become the GLE in 2015
And other Benz naming scheme news.

For whatever reason, the corporate folks at Mercedes-Benz have had enough of the existing naming schemes for some of the marque's current and future models, and are planning to mix it up a bit in the coming years. For starters, Mercedes plans to change the name of its veteran SUV, the M-Class (or ML). When the 2016 model is introduced next year, you'll have to refer to the car as the GLE-Class. Merc wants the last letter in the class name of its SUVs to refer to the class it belongs to, in this case, the E-Class.

Thus, Mercedes will also be renaming the GLK compact crossover once it is reintroduced, this time as the GLC-Class. As for the future BMW X6-inspired Concept Coupe SUV, it will be named the GLE-Class Coupe when it rolls off production lines in the future. These models join the recently-renamed S-Class Coupe (formerly the CL-Class) and the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet (formerly the CLK-Class).
