The report states that the company will focus on localizing the assembly of the Hyundai Tucson for better pricing, which will then be followed by the introduction of the next generation Hyundai Elantra and the Hyundai Sonata. While the former will be manufactured in India, the Sonata is reported to enter local assembly at the company’s plant in Chennai, when it relaunches in the country.
Hyundai showcased the Hyundai Sonata at the Auto Expo 2016 in its hybrid guise, but had not confirmed its launch. Should it arrive in India, it will compete against the Toyota Camry Hybrid and the Honda Accord Hybrid.
If the company is targeting volumes, the diesel version of the current Sonata sold in Korea will be introduced in India, which packs an all new 1.7-liter U2 turbodiesel engine producing 141 hp and 340 Nm of torque through a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
