The current, third generation Suzuki Swift (Suzuki YP6), sold as Maruti Swift in India was introduced in June 2010 and is due to make way for the fourth generation Suzuki Swift that will go on sale in 2017.

While it hasn’t been confirmed for the 2017 Maruti Swift that will be sold in India, the Euro-spec 2017 Suzuki Swift is almost certain to have a performance ‘Sport’ variant, like it does now.

The performance variant, expected to continue being branded as the Suzuki Swift Sport, will be launched in European markets including the UK in the second half of 2017, as per a report from Autocar. The 2017 Suzuki Swift Sport will sport an uprated version of the K14C-DITC 1.4-litre BOOSTERJET turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 103 kW (138.07 hp) and 220 Nm of torque in the Suzuki Vitara.

Along with a more powerful engine, which will likely be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission, the Sport variant is expected to benefit from a sporty body kit, some weight saving measures, relatively more responsive steering and stiffer suspension also.

The 2017 Suzuki Swift, which is said to have its world premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, will be based on the new-generation platform currently used for the Suzuki Baleno. The standard variant should be offered with the K12C 1.2-litre DUALJET naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with/without SHVS and the K10C DITC 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine – both borrowed from the Suzuki Baleno. In India, the next-gen Swift will likely be offered with a new Suzuki-developed diesel engine also.
