On the one hand, the original was brilliant and another car made in the same spirit certainly sounds like something special. On the other, Honda’s still-recent CR-Z model has people wondering. Here is a hybrid which was built as a supposed spiritual successor to another brilliant car, one which left enthusiasts largely unimpressed. So will a hybrid NSX be any better?
Simply put, yes, it will be vastly different. New details have emerged about the car’s powertrain, now completely changed from the concept. The design has changed from a transverse to a longitudinal layout. This is different from the original NSX, but it brings it more in line with cars like the Ferrari 458, with which Honda intends to compete. The engine will be a twin-turbocharged and seriously upgraded version of the 3.5-liter V6 found in the Acura RLX, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The hybrid system will be those found in European exotics, and will be used to drive the front wheels.
