The Nissan X-Trail, though a very capable car, suffers from a bland design and unappealing interior.

In India the SUV suffers from another set back which is the lack of the all important third row seats. Nissan seems to be listening and the next generation Nissan X-Trail which is being developed will be having extra two seats to make it a seven seater.

According to Autocar.co.uk, the next gen seven seater Nissan X-Trail will derive its design inspirations from the the Hi-Cross concept which was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show this year. The new design of the X-trail, if based on the Hi-Cross concept will be a clear departure of the current boring and boxy looks.

The interior design of the next gen X-Trail could also be derived from the Hi-Cross concept. The Hi-Cross concept measures 4,660 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,670 mm in height which makes it bigger than the current X-Trail in all aspects.

The powertrain option for the new X-Trail is expected to be a 2.0 litre GDI (Gasoline Direction Injection) petrol and a 2.0 litre turbo diesel motor. The transmission duty could be handled by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed X-CVT automatic gearbox.

The production version of the next gen Nissan X-Trail is expected to be showcased sometime next year. The new X-Trail will have a better chance at tapping the Indian SUV market with its improved looks and additional seating capacity.
