Now Road Safety Book for Std 3, 4
Road safety awareness should be instilled in people from a very young age and the government is striving to achieve this.

In addition to in-school activities to help teach children about road safety, the government will soon launch a complementary children-friendly book on road safety guidelines, the minister of Education, Vasant Bunwaree said.

The book, to be ready by next month, will target students of standard III and IV and is being finalised by a panel for Road Safety and the Mauritius Institute of Education.

Bunwaree emphasised that the sooner children become aware of the dangers on the road, the fewer accidents involving children there will be.

Last year, statistics indicated 164 children were injured on the road.

All primary schools, including private ones will receive the booklet, posters and interactive CDs to be distributed to the students. A weekly period of 25 minutes will be allocated for the road safety classes.
