Porsche-powered Anibal Icon Is Canada's Crazy 920-hp Hypercar

Anibal Automotive from Montreal, Canada, is already very familiar with tuning Porsches, and now the firm is applying that knowledge into its own hypercar that the company calls the Icon. This carbon-fiber-bodied cruise missile packs the 3.8-liter biturbo flat six from the existing 911 Turbo S but the output grows to a massive 920 horsepower (686 kilowatts). The company intends to build just 50 of them, plus 5 more of the more extreme looking Drastic edition.

The Icon features a wild design for slicing through the air, and the semi-exposed front end evokes an open-wheel race car. Huge openings on each side of the pointed nose feature active elements for tweaking the aerodynamics on the road. The rear wing also constantly adjusts for make similar changes to the flow at the rear. For some extra flash when making an arrival, the Icon has a set of gullwing doors.

The mid-mounted biturbo flat-six engine routes power to both axles. The setup allegedly gets the hypercar to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 2.4 seconds. Handling should be razor sharp, too, because the Icon features both active dampers in the suspension and four-wheel steering. Carbon-ceramic brake discs haul down the 3,400-pound (1,542-kilogram) vehicle from high speeds.

Porsche hasn't had a dedicated hypercar in its lineup since the 918 Spyder. However, the latest 911 GT2 RS shows that there's still a plenty of performance potential from the venerable 911. The new variant packs 690 hp (515 kw) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque from a highly tuned version of the 3.8-liter biturbo flat six. Recent rumors suggest the model could be the quickest road-legal model ever around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The company already confirms that the time is sub-7 minutes, which could mean the Lamborghini Huracán Performante's current record of 6:52 is about to fall.
