Renault Previews Captur SUV
Renault is getting in on the compact crossover game with the new Clio-based Captur.

Renault showcased the Captur crossover concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Now the French automaker is gearing up to unveil the production version. Based on the Clio hatchback, the production Captur has been teased with this solitary preview rendering. Targeting sister-company Nissan's quirky Juke crossover and rival Peugeot's new 2008, the Captur will form Renault's assault on the miniature crossover market.

From the teaser image, the production version appears to have remained rather true to the Captur concept, but with contrasting white roof and mirrors. A metallic skid plate on the underside of the nose promises to lend it some visual ruggedness to differentiate it from the Clio hatchback, but we can expect to find the same engines under the hood, ranging from a 74 horsepower to 118. Whether the platform has been engineered for all-wheel drive or a Renaultsport performance version, however, remains to be seen.
