The new Mazda2 will debut next year (branded Mazda Demio in Japan) with an evolution of the KODO design language that we see on other Mazda family models such as the CX-5 and the CX-9. A shield-shaped radiator grille and slim headlamps form the front-end of the vehicle.
Under the hood, expect the new SKYACTIV-G 1.5L 4cyl engine, tuned to output 100 HP. It would be matched to a 6-speed manual transmission or a new CVT.
The current Mazda2 shares its platform with the Ford Fiesta. However the next gen model is developed independently on the light-weight CX-5 platform which would also be used on successors of other Mazda cars. This triggers the possibility of the Mazdaspeed2 model with the CX-5′s 2.0-liter or 2.4-liter engine, though there are no reports to back such a variant.
The new Mazda2 would be world premiered at one of the main motorshows, with New York and Paris likely contenders.
