Road safety: Mandatory Speed Limiters For Trucks Soon
The truck drivers have to behave themselves. They will not be allowed to drive if their vehicles are not equipped with speed limiters shortly. Indeed, the maximum speed for heavy trucks 3.5 tonnes must not exceed the bar 70 km / h on our roads from 1 July.

The government intends to enact new regulations to require speed limiters for truckers. Thus, all vehicles classified as heavy trucks will necessarily be equipped with this system, otherwise they will not have permits to travel on our roads.

A fine will be imposed on them, if they go against these new regulations.

So after the deadline - July 1, 2012, speed limiter must be activated and controlled as to prevent vehicles exceeding the speed of 70km / h on our highways.

Speed limiters for buses considered

The Minister of Public Infrastructure and inland transportation, Anil Bachoo, confirmed the news. He said he has recently seen a number of trucks involved in accidents causing deaths.

He wondered whether such a regulation should not be applied also for buses. "It is time that this situation continues. Hence the idea of mandatory installation of speed governors in these types of vehicles, "he said.

The last two accidents involving trucks and that marked the minds took place in Sorèze killing two and Broken-Verdière, where two people were killed. In 2011, no fewer than a dozen Bangladeshi workers and a Mauritian were killed in a road accident in St-Julien involving a truck. A Department of Public Infrastructure and Transportation explained that a number of heavy vehicles are already equipped with a speed limiter but it is not mandatory.

"What will change now is that all three vehicles , 5 tons will necessarily be equipped with this system that prevents the vehicle rolling beyond 70km / h, "he said. Stock of the day, the maximum speed on our roads is 110 km / h.

Note that the majority of heavy vehicles assembled recently feature an electronic control module that controls the various engine parameters.

This equipment better known as name of the ECM (Electronic Control Module) is used to determine the maximum speed. And from 1 July, it will be for the operator to ensure that the speed limiter is activated. The latter can be the vehicle owner. The driver, meanwhile, must comply at all times the posted speed limits.

It should be noted that the vehicle speed can be limited by the manufacturer, the dealer, a technician or repair shop owner, if it has the necessary equipment. The operation takes just minutes.
