Road Safety: Our Fleet Is Too Much?
5 April 2012 - Défi Media Group
Already 38 deaths on our roads since the beginning of the year. Enough is enough! Authorities would be exceeded? Our fleet is it crowded?
Zaid Ameer, Chairman of importing reconditioned vehicles, and Sergeant Barlen Munusami addressed the topic on Wednesday morning on the show "Duel" on Radio Plus.
Do you, Zaid Ameer, that our fleet would become too large relative to our roads?
We must decentralize our services. They should be regionalized. You need to have appropriate services in at least four places.
What do you think that accidents are becoming more frequent?
First is the road and how repairs are made. Then there's speed. Currently, checks are made in certain places of the island. More importantly, there is no control in places where the elderly crossing the road. The old are the first victims of fatal accidents. Then, in times of bad weather or when the roads are soaked and reduced visibility, there is more risk of accidents. Because the brakes do not work properly. But back to last Saturday's accident on the highway. I renamed this section. I call it the "highway of death". This is not a single deviation. The people behind this decision, it seems, installed a boxing ring.
Criticism is easy, Zaid Ameer. What are your proposals?
I had the opportunity to visit countries like Singapore. When there are road works, there are many precautions. You will see traffic lights and signs for speed limits. But what is important is the need to ensure the kinds of curves. We can not accept sharp bends on roads on which vehicular traffic from 20 feet long and 40 foot containers. Especially in a place where there is speed. I am convinced that there were other ways to avoid this curve. I understand that development can sometimes cause inconvenience. But the development should not be on people's lives.
