Rose Hill Transport Introduces e-Cards
Rose Hill Transport (RHT) recently introduced the Etoile card. It uses the latest technology in contactless cards to provide users with an easy and secure way to make purchases.

The contactless technology features an embedded chip and radio antenna that communicates, through radio frequency, with Etoile point of sales allowing customers to complete a sale by ‘touch and go’ placing card over the reader.

Mauritius’ first multi-purpose payment card’s first phase includes bus travel. It is the first electronic card in the African region that will be used to pay bus fares. The card has been operational since December 2011 and now has 2,000 users.

Algorithmix Limite chairman and Payment Express Limited chief executive officer, Sailesh Sewpaul mentioned some of the card’s benefits. These include no change required, practical and safe, saves time and is an easier mode of payment.

“Moreover, it helps operators control payments and also prevents conflict between passengers and conductors in the bus, which is a common issue these days,” he said.

The Etoile card has a limit of Rs 2,000 and top up (cash payment) is allowed. To enhance the security, customers can personalise their card by getting their name and photo printed on it.
