There was a time when the affordable coupe segment was quite popular. The Toyota Solara and Honda Accord Coupe found many buyers. Even Nissan gave it a go with an Altima Coupe, but that didn’t last long. And now the Hyundai Elantra Coupe is getting the axe. According to Automobile, the Elantra Coupe will no longer be offered for model year 2015, even though it only launched in 2013. There’s been no specific reason from Hyundai as to why, but the likely answer is slow sales.
As of now, the Elantra GT hatchback is still scheduled to appear in the 2015 lineup alongside the familiar sedan. Hyundai will apparently now leave the coupe segment for its sister brand, Kia. A new Kia Forte Koup was launched only a year ago, so that’s not expected to go anywhere for the time being. Honda is also still selling a two-door Civic. We doubt few will miss the Elantra Coupe probably because not many people were even aware of its existence to begin with.
