And it seems like the guys at Flyin Miata are the first to do so successfully. The company has been tuning Miatas for years, turning one of the best sports cars in the world into corner-destroying V8-powered beasts. The engine of choice for this particular swap is nothing other than the venerable GM LS3 V8. The engine is a natural choice for Flyin', who have experience using it in other Miata projects.

While the company will certainly do a full engine swap for you if you write them a big enough check, a lot of its business comes from selling Miata owners the parts needed to perform a swap themselves. This business model will stay intact when it comes to the fourth-generation Miata. Those wanting a complete turn-key car can pony up cash or opt for a conversion kit that will cost less but require many hours of work in your garage. If you're like us, the first thing you wondered was how much a turn-key V8-powered Miata costs. Well, it isn't cheap. Flyin' hasn't released finalized pricing information yet, but customers are likely going to be paying somewhere in the range of $50,000 for a complete car that requires no wrenching whatsoever.

With their current swap, Flyin' claims a total power output in the neighborhood of 525 horsepower, all of that of course sent to the rear wheels. All of that power is handled via a Tremec T56 transmission and a rear differential taken from the Cadillac CTS-V. Additional parts include new brakes (thank God!), suspension, exhaust and roll cage. Flyin' is currently putting the finishing touches on the conversion kits and cars but both should be available soon.
