SsangYong, now part of the Mahindra Group, unveiled the third-generation Rexton - now labelled Rexton W - at the recent Busan auto show held in South Korea.
The Rexton W will be launched in South Africa in October 2012.
'More Modern, Sophisticated'
The automaker claims its flagship SUV continues to be a capable off-roader but is now also “more modern and sophisticated”.
It is powered by a two-litre turbodiesel producing 114kW/367Nm although models sold in South Africa will also be offered with a 2.7-litre turbodiesel using a five-speed auto transmission from Mercedes-Benz.
Standard equipment on the redesigned SUV includes safety features such as electronic stability control, roll-over protection, a tyre-pressure monitor and parking distance warning.
CEO of Mahindra SA, Ashok Thakur, said: "We're looking forward to the arrival of this premium class SUV in October as we are already enjoying a high level of interest at our SsangYong dealers where the refreshed Actyon Sports bakkie and Korando SUV went on sale recently."
