The fourth-gen Vitara, also known as Suzuki Escudo, was introduced at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Maruti Suzuki could have imported the C-segment SUV for component testing. No camouflage on the body further strengthens the speculation that Maruti Suzuki is not testing it for the domestic market. Many other international Suzuki models have shown up testing during previous occasions in India, like the JDM-spec Suzuki Wagon R for instance.
The Vitara is currently at the middle stage of its lifecycle. While the test mule seen in the spy shot is most likely the original model, a facelifted model is undergoing road tests internationally for a launch later this year. The 2018 Suzuki Vitara is expected to feature minor visual updates and enhanced safety.
For India, Maruti Suzuki has planned a new C-segment SUV that will enter production in 2020. This model may have a 7-seat version as well, competing with the 7-seat version of the Tata H5X. It could be based on the Vitara.
