The 11 Kenyans of all the faithful Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Thika at about 40 km east of Nairobi travelled to Tanzania for a church retreat when the accident occurred macabre early Friday.
"The bus in which we were traveling had stopped to help our colleagues who were on another bus that had skidded off the road when that truck the hit from behind," said Wangiru Ngoima, one passengers Xinhua by telephone.
She said the impact forced the bus to overturn, killing 11 passengers. She was not sure of the number of passengers who were injured, but Wanjiru said rescue operations were underway by authorities who rushed to the scene.
According to statistics from the Kenyan police, 10,240 accidents occurred and left 3,055 dead in 2010 when 7,596 accidents were recorded in 2011.
