Aside from being the two quickest and most powerful four-door luxury sedans on the market, the Tesla Model S and Audi RS7 have one design theme in common: a hatch that defines the rear end silhouette and cleverly combines utility and functionality. As much as the tech-laden Tesla and luxuriously appointed Audi drive a hard sales bargain without the hatch, we'd suspect it's a main selling point because if it wasn't, why not just go for an A8?
Thing is, we're all gearheads here, so speed is a huge factor behind the appeal of both cars, especially when a $40,000+ price gulf exists between the base models and these souped-up muscle car variants. That's why Jonny Lieberman and Jason Cammisa of Motor Trend see a comparison of the two to be fitting.
Especially so when the previous top-trim versions of each car accelerated from 0-100 km/h in the same 3.2 seconds. Now, there are better and faster versions of each car. The RS7 has gotten a not so subtle 40 horsepower boost over the previous RS7 while the Model S now comes equipped with a 100 kWh battery and Ludicrous Plus mode that allows the driver to put a bit of extra wear and tear on the electric motors in exchange for better off the line performance.
