The car just doesn’t make sense for Mitsubishi right now, which is something that doesn’t make sense to a bunch of car guys, but whatever. The last Evo X won’t be out until summer 2015, but it’s never too early to start the farewell tour. Below you’ll find a few of our favorite Evo Xs. Take your time and enjoy them as you see fit.
Racer Ryan Gates is the man behind the 311RS EVO X, a limited-edition Lancer Evolution that has some serious engine and body mods. For starters, AMS Performance added a slew of parts that pushed the stock engine up to 353 horsepower and 359 lb-ft of torque. A new suspension, brakes, alignment, and 18-inch wheels were also added. An Etnies E-Suede interior, said to be three times more durable than regular suede, rounds out the package. For some odd reason the 311RS EVO X was only sold in Minnesota, where all 11 models likely flew off the lot despite their $49,000 price tag.
Fans of the Resident Evil video game series will likely recognize the umbrella decal on the SchwabenFolia Evo X.
The turbo four was pushed to 390 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque thanks to aftermarket modifications. The beefier engine will grab attention, but the exterior is where this custom Evo X really stands out from the pack. The decals are geeky but the Black Brushed Steel and Toxic Orange Metallic paint are a surprisingly good match.
While it isn’t here yet, we’d be remiss if we didn’t put the final Evo, the 5MT GSR, on this list. They say you never know a good thing until it’s gone, and the Lancer Evolution is close to being gone with the final 2,000 units set to debut in summer 2015. Details on the finished product are vague, but it will be faster and have a new suspension. Heated front seats, leather upholstery, a sunroof, and a five-speed manual will also come standard.
Drivers in the UK were treated to the FQ-400 MR, an Evo X created to celebrate 40 years of Mitsubishi in the United Kingdom. Only 40 units were built and each one was sold for $79,000. That’s a bit pricey, but it’s worth the money when you consider all the shiny new additions, including a bigger turbocharger, ECU remap, lowered suspension, 18-inch wheels, and 7-inch touchscreen sat nav. Perhaps the most interesting addition is a data recorder that logs information and can be used to void your warranty if you drive like a maniac.
Even the Bobbies appreciate the awesomeness of the Evo X, as evidenced by the UK's South Yorkshire Police enlisting one to help catch speedy criminals. The law-enforcing four-door joined an Evo XIII and IX in the squad’s Road Crimes Unit. Even if you don’t like cops you have to admit, that police livery looks quite dashing.
