Toyota and Daihatsu to form ‘Emerging-market Compact Car Company’ on Jan 1
Toyota and Daihatsu have announced that a new internal company called as the ‘Emerging-market Compact Car Company’ will be formally established on January 1.

The objective of the company is – as its name suggests – to develop to competitive, ever-better cars based on Daihatsu's approach to manufacturing affordable, high-quality products, for emerging markets. They haven't specifically mentioned the emerging markets that Toyota intends to target with the said products developed by the new company, but past media reports say India is a part of the big plan.

The new internal company will consist of three divisions: the Emerging-market Compact Car Product & Business Planning Division, the Emerging-market Compact Car Product Planning Division and the Emerging-market Compact Car Quality Planning Division. The first division will include both Toyota and Daihatsu, and is responsible for overall planning for products and business operations, including making proposals for the Toyota-brand vehicle product lineup for emerging markets

Also, Toyota Motor Corp has announced that Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Engineering and Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TMAP-EM) is to be renamed Toyota Daihatsu Engineering and Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TDEM), which will become an entity under Emerging-market Compact Car Company.
