The Toyota Corolla’s hybrid variant debuted next to the Toyota Levin HEV at Auto Shanghai 2015, and is built and sold in China by the FAW-Toyota joint venture. The looks of the Chinese Corolla Hybrid will be used on the facelift of the global Corolla this year.
The Corolla Hybrid measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,775 mm in width and 1,485 in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Its powertrain is composed of a 8ZR-FXE 1.8-litre VVT-i Atkinson cycle petrol engine that produces 73 kW (98 hp) and 142 Nm of torque and a permanent magnet synchronous motor that spins out 53 kW (71 hp) and 207 Nm of torque. In total, the hybrid system develops 100 kW (134 hp). Power is sent to the wheels via an an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission.
The energy is saved in 6.5 Ah NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride) batteries. The hybrid variant can reach a top speed of 180 km/h and has a fuel consumption rating of 4.2 litres per 100 km (23.81 km/l).
