Washing Vehicles and Watering Lawns Banned Again
The Central Water Authority (CWA) requires new restrictions on use of tap water. Starting tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 10, it will for example be allowed to wash vehicles outside the professional stations and water lawns and gardens.

The announcement was made today by the director of the CWA at a press conference.

Violators face fines of up to Rs 50,000 and imprisonment not exceeding two years. This action was taken until further notice to avoid wastage of drinking water for our reservoirs are still in the red zone. The largest reservoir of the island, Mare aux Vacoas, is only 23% capacity.

This measure has already been applied in January 2011 before it was lifted a few months later. Some people, caught in the act of wasting water, were arrested and brought to Court.
