The 2016 Fortuner is redesigned ground-up, sitting on a new ladder-frame chassis, featuring a modernized design and premium interior with individual features, and a new range of engines.
As per Thai reports, the Toyota Fortuner will be sold with 2 diesel engines and one petrol unit installed across 4 different variants (for Thai customers). The diesel variants would be the 2.4G 4×2 6MT, 2.4V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×4 6AT, while the sole petrol model is the 2.7V 4×2 6AT. This implies that one variant will get 4WD+AT, one with 6-speed MT and the rest would make do with a 6-speed AT.
The Fortuner is only the third Toyota vehicle globally to carry the new GD diesel engine family. Its first member is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that outputs 150 hp/343 Nm of torque, and the more powerful 2.8-liter diesel engine reportedly comes in two tunes: 177 hp/420 Nm and 177 hp/450 Nm of torque. The older 2.7-liter four-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine carried over delivers 122 hp and 245 Nm of torque.
While there is no confirmation, Thai reports say that Smart Key System with Keyless Entry, push-button start, knee airbags, ABS+EBD, Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control system (VSC), and Hill Assist Control come standard. The center console, as the brochure leak showed yesterday, is redesigned for the Fortuner with a touch-screen display, while other components and the architecture is shared with the Hilux.
