The latest pick-up sits on Toyota’s new QDR platform with increased rigidity and strength over the outgoing model. All variants come standard with a list of active safety features that include Active Traction Control (A-TRC), Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).
The new Hilux gets a large set of projector headlamps with LED DRLs, trapezoidal 3-slat grille, clamshell bonnet, bigger wheel arches, and redesigned taillamps. Bigger changes are seen in the interior, where the Hilux scraps the utilitarian design for a more car-like layout with enhanced comfort and features.
Top-end variants will get a large “floating” touchscreen display, push button start, automatic climate control, steering-mounted controls, cruise control and leather upholstery. Toyota have vastly improved the safety list with inclusion of seven SRS airbags and features like Electronic Brake Assist.
The new Hilux is offered with a choice between two diesel engine options: a 2.4-liter D-4D with 150 hp and 400 Nm of torque, a 2.8-liter D-4D with 177 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic, while a 4×4 system is mostly exclusive to higher variants.
