The hatchback variant will go by the name "Verna RV" for the Chinese market, and is expected to have its market launch in January 2017. It will be available in 5 trim levels, reports AutoHome, a Chinese publication.
On the design front, the 2017 Hyundai Verna hatchback inherits its styling from the 2017 Verna sedan, which went on sale in China today. The hatchback gets a newly-designed rear bumper, and new taillights seemingly inspired by the 2017 Hyundai i30.
The interior is identical to the 2017 Verna sedan. The i20-borrowed multifunction steering wheel and instrument cluster are accompanied by a 7-inch touchscreen Apple CarPlay-enabled entertainment system, automatic climate control and dual-tone black-and-beige upholstery.
Under the hood, the 2017 Hyundai Verna hatchback will be powered by the same engines as the Verna sedan in the Chinese market. Two petrol engine options – a 1.4-liter four-cylinder and a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit – are available, and both engines are carried over from the previous Verna. The 1.4-liter petrol develops 100 hp whereas the 1.6-liter petrol produces 123 hp. 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes are available with both engines.
Hyundai Motor India will launch the 2017 Verna sedan by H2 2017, however, the hatchback will not make it to the Indian market. Instead, the 2017 Verna hatchback would launch in the USA as the 2018 Hyundai Accent hatchback sometime next year.
