The current Nissan Micra was originally introduced in 2010 as the fourth generation model and given a facelift in 2013.

At the 2016 Paris Motor Show in September, Nissan will reportedly unveil the fifth generation Nissan Micra. Months ahead of its debut, the 2017 Nissan Micra has been spied testing on public roads again, courtesy Auto Plus.

As seen in spyshots, the fifth generation Nissan Micra’s design will be heavily inspired by the Nissan Sway Concept that was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Just to get a rough idea of the expected dimensions, the Nissan Sway Concept measures 4,010 mm in length, 1,780 mm in width and 1,385 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,570 mm.

The next-gen Nissan Micra will be based on the CMF-B version of the Renault-Nissan Alliance’ CMF (Common Modular Family) platform. The Euro-spec 2017 Nissan Micra should be offered with an array of petrol and diesel engine options with displacements ranging from 0.9- to 1.6-litre. The all-new Nissan Micra may share a few engines, including a 0.9-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol unit, with the Renault Clio.

The next-gen Nissan Micra for India will be different from the Euro-spec next-gen Nissan Micra. The Indian next-gen Nissan Micra, which may or may not look similar to the Euro-spec model, could be based on the currently sold Micra’s V-platform. There’s no strong reason why Nissan India would stop making V-platform cars and heavily invest to start producing CMF-B platform cars in the near future.

Once it arrives, Renault-Nissan’s Alliance facility in Oragadam near Chennai, India will be the mother plant for this model, with exports planned for other markets in the AMEI (Asia, Middle East and India) region. The Euro-spec fifth-gen Nissan Micra will be built at Renault’s Flins plant located near Paris in France.
